We were met with some rain as we were leaving church today. We were headed home with another family whom we know from school who walks home the same way we do. As we walked, we decided that it was a perfect afternoon to check out a couple Bangkok places together we’d each had our eye on – an English book store cafe, and a board game cafe. Turned out to be a fun-filled afternoon for both families.
We took a taxi to the BTS (sky train) and rode it to Phrong Phrom station, then had a pleasant but wet 5 minute walk to Dasa Book Cafe. Very friendly folks, 3 floors of used books to browse through, and a cafe serving coffee and such. I don’t think any of us left without a book purchase, something for everyone here. We were then on the search for a board game cafe in which to spend the rest of the rainy afternoon. We weren’t having luck with getting any answer when calling the first two we had heard about, and so we just hopped back onto the BTS to Phloen Chit to look for yet another one we’d read about. Boarding Time Board Game Cafe did not disappoint! The owner, Earn, spoke very good English and was so customer-oriented. He set us up with a great table upstairs, got us started on games we chose (explaining how to play so we wouldn’t have to read pages of directions!), and was very attentive with our food order and checking on us. The place was busy the entire two hours we were there. The place has walls of board games to play there and to buy! Our two families chose Ticket to Ride for the younger kids and Carcassonne for the rest of us. An afternoon of strategy games, food, and fun to top off book shopping – a perfect rainy day in the city!
